La nueva Amarok conserva el motor 2.0 l TDI de 140 y 180 cv, asociado a una caja que puede ser tanto manual de 6 marchas o automática de 8. El mismo le permite alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 184 km/h y una aceleración de 0 a 100 km/h en 10,3 o 13,1 segundos, según versión. Este propulsor se caracteriza también por un consumo promedio que varía entre 7,3 y 8,3 litros cada 100 km.
El torque varía según versión, cuyos valores son 340 Nm (34,7 kgm) / 1.600 a 2.250 rpm para la potencia de 140 cv, 400 Nm (40,8 kgm) / 1.500 a 2.250 rpm para la potencia de 180 cv manual y 420 Nm (42,8 kgm) / 1.750 a 2250 rpm para la potencia de 180 cv automática.
