Toyota Hilux Vs Nissan Frontier
La arena fue escenario por excelencia durante la antigua Roma donde los gladiadores se enfrentaban hasta que solo uno de ellos quedaba en pie. Motriz, aprovechó los médanos de la Costa Atlántica para enfrentar a dos luchadoras: Toyota Hilux y Nissan NP300 Frontier.
La Costa Argentina, como todos los veranos, está siendo el escenario donde las terminales exhiben sus novedades más recientes, e incluso aquellas que están por venir.
En el caso de Nissan, además de tener un importante stand en Cariló, fue el lugar elegido donde realizó el lanzamiento de su pick up NP300 Frontier a mediados de enero. Motriz participó de ese acontecimiento que contó con un exigente test entre medios de bosques y médanos, donde realmente se pudo ver en su esplendor las aptitudes off road de esta desafiante Nissan.
El lanzamiento de la nueva generación de Toyota en Mendoza, también contó con exigentes circuitos, pero ninguno de ellos sobre la arena. Aprovechando del préstamo de Frontier durante una semana, decidimos juntarla con una la nueva Hilux en su versión SRX, la tope de gama. Aquí, un nuevo VS de dos rivales de peso.
La estética por fuera
La cuestión de la estética en una “chata” empezó a tomar preponderancia cuando apareció en el 2005 la séptima generación de Hilux. Hoy, su renovación, es del calibre de aquel entonces. Esto, se percibe en la trompa de esta versión y en la SRV (las más equipadas) en donde además del nuevo paragolpes delantero y la parrilla cromada, adopta unas ópticas más estilizadas con faros con proyector y luces LEDs que le hacen una suerte de ceño fruncido, lo que le da una mirada agresiva. De perfil sobresalen sus pasa ruedas más robustos, sus llantas de 18”. En tanto que de atrás, también estrena ópticas (más envolventes).
La pick up de Nissan sorprendió para bien con esta evolución en su imagen. Muchos la consideran como la más agresiva de todas, con esa imponente parrilla cromada en V, las ópticas delanteras con luces Leds en forma de boomerang y luces diurnas, también con Leds. También sobresalen sus enormes llantas de 18”. Si bien el aspecto estético es totalmente subjetivo, la NP 300 aventaja a la Hilux en este aspecto, en el sentido que todos sus implementos (cromados, antinieblas, llantas de 18”, luces LEDs, entre los más destacables), se conservarán en todas las versiones. En el caso de Hilux, su estética se va empobreciendo en versiones más accesibles, como por ejemplo en las versiones SR la cual utiliza luces frontales halógenas y llantas más pequeñas (17”).

El interior de Hilux, totalmente renovado, sigue siendo sobrio.
La caja de la NP 300 mide: 1.503 mm de largo, 1.560 mm de ancho y 447 mm de profundidad, con una capacidad de 995 kilos (4×2) y 900 kilos (4×4). Si bien sus medidas son muy similares, la pick Up de Nissan aventaja a la Toyota por el revestimiento de plástico en todas sus versiones. Ni hablar del inédito y práctico sistema de cuatro anclajes móviles para sujetar la carga y del toma corriente de 12 voltios que dispone en dicho sector. Aplausos para Nissan en este apartado.
Nuestra unidad de prueba estaba equipada con el nuevo 2.8 turbo diésel de 177 CV (se ofrece también otro diésel 2.4 de 150 CV). Su ronroneo se escucha mucho menos que en la anterior generación. En tramos de ciudad, se pueden recorrer 100 km consumiendo un promedio de 10 y 11 litros. Por autopista a 130 km/h, con el motor realmente relajado, el consumo oscila entre los 7,5 y 8 litros cada 100 km.
Su función ECO, va indicando en el tablero los regímenes para que se consuma menos. Su costado más salvaje, lo fuimos a buscar en los medanos. Activado su modo Power y con el acelerador más sensible, superamos con creces: trepadas, profundas huellas y salimos airosos de las zonas donde la arena estaba demasiada suelta. Pero siempre con la sensación que no le sobraba nada. Es que se trata de un motor mucho más civilizado que el anterior, que prioriza el menor consumo y que ahora prácticamente no se escucha.
Esta sensación de falta de “pimienta” en los médanos de la nueva Hilux, la pudimos notar con claridad cuando tomábamos inmediatamente el volante de la Frontier. Su motor doble turbo de 2.3 litros de 190 CV, se nota mucho más vigoroso y esto lo transmite con su sonido y su mayor reacción. En este caso, nunca tuvimos la sensación de que la camioneta se iba a quedar: La Nissan, hace notar sus 190 CV. Por ciudad, su desempeño es brillante y su computadora nos arrojó un consumo que promediaba los 11 litros cada 100 km, en tanto que en tramos de ruta rondaba los 9 litros cada 100 km a 120 km/h. A 130 km/h, el motor viaja en 3.000 vueltas y el consumo acusaba unos 13 litros cada 100 km.
¿Como van?
En el caso de la Hilux queremos hacer hincapie en el gran confort de marcha que adoptó. Con su motor silencioso, la dirección mas suave y la suspensión menos saltarina, se asemeja mucho más al andar de auto. El arsenal de soluciones tecnológicas destinadas a los terrenos complejos, se modernizaron en cuanto a los comandos para activarlos. Aquella larga palanca de cambio de las versiones manuales, se reemplazó por uno más corto. Y la pequeña selectora manual con la que se accionaba la tracción 4×4, desapareció para dar paso a un botón en la consola central.
Si bien no es de las “chatas” más potentes, no deja de ser un tractorcito cumplidor. La insonorización de todo el habitáculo está muy mejorado y el espacio de la plaza traseras es más amplio para tres adultos viajen.
En el caso de Nissan, en ciudad, destacamos la sensación de seguridad y una visual inmejorable a bordo de una de las pick ups, más despejadas del mercado (254mm). Estacionar, no fue inconveniente y esto responde a su cámara de retroceso (la Hilux también la ofrece) y a que es una de las más cortas (5,26 mts) del segmento.
En tramos de autopista y rutas, la sensación de a bordo es similar a la de cualquier auto confortable. Con las ventanillas cerradas, no se escucha prácticamente ruido de afuera. Sorprende la reacción en cualquier tipo marcha, incluso en sexta. La gran diferencia con el resto de sus rivales, la genera su tren trasero (sistema multilink de eje rígido, con amortiguadores y espirales) ¿Los resultados? Los golpes secos, rebotes en zonas vadeadas, no se transmiten adentro. Durante los tramos exigentes, notamos que su volante le falta un mejor grip y que su bocina es muy sensible, ya que con solo rozar el centro del volante la misma se acciona.
Conclusión
Nadie duda que la esta nueva generación de la Hilux es la mejor de todas. Y si uno hace la mirada hacia atrás y ve de que esta Toyota viene siendo la líder en venta hace once años consecutivos, todo hace pensar que la cosa seguirá siendo así. Desde Nissan, son conscientes de ello, y entienden que les queda un largo camino para recorrer. Pero también tienen en claro que tienen con qué enfrentarla. Y si bien el modelo ya está a la venta todas las fichas de la marca están puestos para el 2018, cuando la Frontier NP300, empiece a ser fabricada en Córdoba.
