Si escudriñamos hacia atrás, vamos a encontrar que Fiat fue la primera con el apelativo Adventure, que “lookeaba” a su familiar Palio Weekend y a su pick-up Strada.
Hoy, son varias las versiones vigentes que aparentan tener aptitudes para el off road. Sin embargo, Motriz eligió dos rivales para este VS que por su perfil familiar, y por supuesto, por su tratamiento aventurero, se disputan claramente para ver quien presenta más y mejores fundamentos para quienes busca un modelo de este segmento.
La VW Suran es uno de los monovolúmenes más longevos (se fabrica en Pacheco desde el 2006) que se comercializan en nuestro mercado. Su incursión por los pseudo off road, la inició después de la buena recepción que tuvo el Cross Fox, es decir el hatchback sobre el cual se basa la Suran. A fines del 2014, la familia Volkswagen Fox y Suran, recibió un importante re diseño, el cual también involucró a sus ediciones Cross.
El Chevrolet Spin, por su parte, tiene en su Curriculum Vitae apenas cuatro años de experiencia, mientras que esta edición que se apellida Activ, se sumó recién en marzo del año pasado.
El maquillaje que recibe la Spin Active para diferenciarse de su par, está bastante logrado. Las modificaciones en su estética más sustanciales pasan por sus ópticas de cuerpo oscuro, molduras inferiores y laterales, stickers en los bajos de las puertas, barras de techo y llantas específicas. Se recurre al controvertido recurso de colgar el auxilio en el portón trasero. Esto, además de quitar visual y ser peligroso en caso de choque, requiere de espacio extra (por lo menos un metro) y paciencia para abrir su portón trasero. Sin embargo, compensa el hecho de que el auxilio dispone la misma medida y llanta de aluminio que el las cuatro ruedas titulares.
El Suran Cross no es más que la versión familiar del Fox Cross (con 38 cm más de largo). De hecho, si se los mira de frente prácticamente no tienen diferencia. Hablamos de una cara con un paragolpes delanteros cuya parrilla inferior negra y símil aluminio aparenta ser de mayores dimensiones y los faros anti niebla más cuadrados y de mayor tamaño. Además del logo que identifica a la marca, en el frente hay una inscripción que nos cuenta que se trata de la versión Cross. De costado, se puede ver el mayor despeje, los pasa ruedas en negro, zócalo en negro y aluminio, stickers, espejos exteriores en la misma terminación y barras porta equipaje. De atrás, no se recurre a la rueda de auxilio colgada de su portón trasero, sino que está oculta en el piso de su baúl, la cual respeta la medida de las cuatro restantes, aunque la llanta es de chapa y no de aluminio.
Por dentro, la Spin Activ tiene pocas diferencias con su versión convencional. Los tapizados de los asientos tienen un estampado que incluye la identificación del modelo. Todo lo demás sigue inalterado: Tablero mix digital/analógico, su panel de abordo y conserva su pantalla táctil con el sistema My Link. Este sistema no ofrece GPS ni cámara de marcha atrás, lo que sería muy útil, considerando sus dimensiones. El gran volumen de su baúl y luminosidad de su interior, siguen siendo sus estandartes.
Al igual que la Spin Activ, el monovolumen de VW utiliza el recurso de utilizar nuevo tapizados para todos los asientos. En nuestro caso estaban forrados de un símil cuero y en las butacas delanteras nos encontramos con el zorrito en los respaldos y unos bolsillos en los laterales. Al basarse en la Highline, su equipamiento es realmente destacable. Así, dispone de la central multimedia con pantalla touch, que ofrece navegador satelital (opcional) y la tecnología Volkswagen App Connect, que trabaja con los sistemas Mirror Link, Apple Car Play y Android Auto, que posibilitan acceder a funciones del celular desde la pantalla del auto y viceversa.
El gran espacio de la Spin, sigue siendo un de sus puntos más fuertes, como también así su gran capacidad de baúl (710 litros que pueden convertirse en 1.840 si se rebaten las plazas traseras). Lo que perdió está versión fue la opción de tres filas de asientos, algo que está presente en la Spin convencional. Una lástima, ya que dejó de lado uno de los posibles argumentos para que las familias numerosas lo elijan por sobre los competidores.
El espacio para que viajen cinco ocupantes en la Suran Cross es muy bueno, pero no supera al de la Spin Activ. Su baúl con capacidad para 430 litros que puede crecer hasta los 1.580 litros rebatiendo las plazas traseras también es para destacar, pero parece chico cuando se lo compara con el monovolumen de Chevrolet. Donde aventaja la Suran Cross, es en la mejor calidad de materiales utilizados puertas adentro. La presencia de techo corredizo y de soluciones como el control de crucero, volante multifunción en cuero, el control de estabilidad, control de tracción y asistencia al arranque en pendiente, terminan por inclinar la balanza a favor de la Suran, cuando de mayor confort y equipamiento se busca puertas adentro.
Si bien no hay novedades debajo del capot de la Spin, ya que mantiene el 1.8 Ecotec de 8 válvulas de 105 CV. Esta versión cuenta con un mayor despeje (1,5 cm) frente al Spin a secas. Otro recurso que alimenta su costado off road, son sus neumáticos de uso mixto. Es decir, con un dibujo que proporciona mejor tracción en caminos de tierra. Se trata de cubiertas Pirelli Scorpion ATR en medida 205/60 R15.
Su caja automática de 6 marchas, es un tanto lenta (por patinamientos) y tiene cambios largos, por lo que hay que jugar un poco con el acelerador para obligarla a ser algo más rápida y ágil o, directamente, usar la opción secuencial manual (mediante un gatillo o switch en la selectora). A favor, es clara la comodidad de no tener que realizar constantes cambios de marcha, algo para agradecer cada vez más en el caótico tránsito de las principales ciudades argentinas.
A diferencia de la Spin Activ, esta versión aventurera de la Suran, se equipa con el ya conocido motor naftero, cuatro cilindros en línea, 1.6 litros (1.598 cc) y 16 válvulas. Este propulsor entrega una potencia de 110 caballos a unas 5.800 revoluciones, en tanto que su torque máximo, es decir su potencia, la entrega en las 4.000 revoluciones. Esta edición, también recurrió al recurso de presentar un despeje más elevado del suelo, aunque no recurre a neumáticos de uso mixto (neumáticos Fate Sentiva en medida 195/55 R15). La caja que se ofrece en esta versión es manual de 6 marchas, sin opción de caja automática.
Por su gran tamaño, el Spin es el familiar por excelencia del segmento. El buen espacio en las plazas traseras y su gigantesco baúl son argumentos más que validos para aquel que busca un auto cómodo. Nos encontramos realmente cómodos en su butaca, con una visual inmejorable del camino. Pese a ser un vehículo largo, no es difícil de maniobrar y a ello colabora su precisa dirección hidráulica. Su buen despeje del suelo y sus neumáticos mixtos, ayudan a olvidarse de las calles en mal estado y pasar con cuidado por los lomos de burro.
Por caminos sin pavimento, nos gustó el hecho de que no ingresó polvo adentro. En ruta, esta gran carrocería suele inclinarse un poco en curvas pronunciadas, pero nada grave. Ya que mencionamos la velocidad y si bien no es auto con el que se puede pretender acción al pisar su acelerador, encontramos un motor un tanto veterano que exige ser llevado a altas revoluciones para tener reacción. Esto influye en su ruido (se torna gritón pasando los 110 km) y sobre todo en su consumo, (a 130 km/h casi 11 litros cada 100 km y en ciudad se dispara a casi 13 litros cada 100 km).
El monovolumen de VW tiene una de las direcciones más suaves del segmento (es eléctrica mientras que la de la Spin es hidráulica), lo cual es un placer moverse por ciudad con este ejemplar. Su posición de manejo es elevada, aún con la butaca rebajada al máximo, con lo cual un conductor de talla alta, puede rozar su cabeza contra el techo. El tacto de su volante (igual al del Golf VII), es impecable y se regula tanto en altura como en profundidad. Los pasajeros de atrás, pueden viajar cómodos siempre y cuando en el medio viaje un niño. Las mesitas tipo avión rebatibles, son muy útiles para apoyar bazos o cuando los más pequeños quieran dibujar o apoyar la tablet. El desempeño de su motor, es el gran fundamento de compra de este modelo que se acopla a una caja manual de 6 marchas que permite provechar al máximo las prestaciones del mismo. Es un motor ágil, cuyo consumo viajando a 130 km/h en 6ª marcha, es de 7,8 litros/100 km, mientras que en ámbito urbano, promedió 9,6 litros/100 km.
