Mustang Shelby, la gran Eleanor
60 segundos fue el film que transformó al modelo de Ford en un coprotagonista de lujo para Nicolas Cage, quien se “enamoró” de su auto y lo hizo cómplice de sus acciones.
Si hay un auto que traspasó su propia historia para convertirse en una estrella de cine, ese es el Mustang Shelby GT 500. Utilizado en la película 60 segundos, protagonizada por Nicolas Cage, alcanzó un rol protagónico, fue compañero de todo momento, amigo, y hasta confidente. Así, el Mustang terminó de coronarse en el film como un auto único y prometedor de emociones. El verdadero modelo que se llega a comprar por el impulso emocional más que racional. Cage lo bautizó con el nombre de Eleanor, así lo llamó durante el film y así quedó grabado en la historia de quienes lo vieron. Para la filmación se construyeron 11 coches diferentes, pero sólo nueve quedaron completos, ya que dos fueron destruidos durante el rodaje; en el salto en el puente y en la escena final de la prensa. Sin duda el auto que adoran fanáticos de los automóviles clásicos, no por nada es el único en la historia en recibir el crédito “Estrella”, en una película.
En la vida real El Ford Mustang es un automóvil fabricado por Ford Motor Company, que cuenta con dos versiones: descapotable y coupé, y con dos motores: V6 y V8. Los máximos directivos de la automotriz querían ver a su Mustang compitiendo directamente con sus rivales en un circuito profesional. Para ello se recurrió a Carroll Shelby (ex-corredor que fabricaba prototipos de carreras y competición conocidos como Cobras) quien ya tenía algún contacto de negocios con la compañía. Así surge el fastback como un tercer tipo de carrocería para el Ford Mustang en 1965 y así mismo este fastback es la carrocería base sobre la cual se crea el Shelby GT350. Se basó inicialmente en la segunda generación del modelo estadounidense Ford Falcon, un vehículo del segmento C.1 Fue introducido al mercado el 17 de abril de 1964.
