Ahora, después de 2015 donde la protagonista fue la Hilux de octava generación, llegó el turno de un nuevo producto para el segmento chico, pero en este caso con más diseño, lo cual le permite posicionarse un escalón más arriba, y con una estética más deportiva.
El Yaris es un hatchback del segmento B que se ubica entre el Etios y el Corolla. Según sus dimensiones, comparado con el Etios que es con quien comparte categoría, mide 4.11 metros de largo (3.38 cm más que el Etios); 1.70 metros de ancho (5 cm más que el pequeño) y 1.45 metros de alto. En este caso es apenas más bajo que el Etios (1.50 metros), para potenciar la imagen deportiva.
La distancia entre ejes es de 2.55 metros, 5 cm más que el hermano menor. Donde sí lo supera es en el baúl. Mientras que Etios tiene 270 litros, el Yaris cuenta con una capacidad de 326 litros, el más grande de su categoría.
El vehículo estará disponible en una única versión con motor 1.5 litros y 107 CV, con tecnología Dual VVT-i, combinada con una caja CVT.
En términos de diseño, este modelo dio un gran paso si se compara con el Etios. Es más estilizado, con una vista frontal más atractiva integrada por la parrilla trapezoidal y las ópticas halógenas alargadas. De atrás, el diseño continúa con los pilares negros y el diseño aerodinámico de los faros (en forma de C). Tiene espejos exteriores con luz de giro y llantas de aleación de 15″ (165 / 60 R15).
Por dentro, el panel de instrumentos divide la información en 3 partes. A la izquierda se encuentra el tacómetro y a la derecha el medidor de combustible y otros indicadores lumínicos. En el centro con borde cromado se encuentra el velocímetro y la computadora de abordo, que permite ver información de viaje, consumo de combustible cada 100km y autonomía. Además posee un indicador “ECO” de consumo.
En cuanto al equipamiento, este modelo tiene cierre centralizado, levanta vidrios eléctricos, nuevo equipo de audio con pantalla táctil de 7″, CD, mp3, USB, SD Card, Bluetooth®, Micro HDMI y conexión con smartphones.
Los espejos exteriores son de color carrocería, con luz de giro incorporada. Además, son regulables y rebatibles eléctricamente desde el interior del habitáculo. El volante está recubierto en cuero con costura roja y posee control de funciones del audio. Además tiene sensores traseros.
Tiene capacidad para transportar a 5 pasajeros. Los asientos están tapizados en tela con doble costura de hilo rojo, mientras que el asiento del conductor tiene ajuste en altura para mayor confort.
En seguridad, cuenta con airbags frontales para el conductor y el pasajero, tres apoyacabezas traseros y cinturones de 3 puntos inerciales. También posee anclajes ISOFIX (x2).
Además dispone del sistema de frenos ABS con asistencia de frenado (BA), para ayudar a asegurar el frenado estable en condiciones resbaladizas o en situaciones de emergencia, pudiendo mantener el control del vehículo. Los frenos son a disco ventilados de 14 pulgadas de diámetro para las ruedas delanteras y frenos a tambor traseros.
