El modelo es llamativo no sólo por su diseño de coupe (quedan pocos en el mercado) sino también por su mecánica ya que cuenta con un motor 2.0 16v turbocomprimido (F4Rt) de nueva generación, con 265 CV de potencia. Tiene caja manual de 6 velocidades y alcanza una velocidad máxima de 255 km/h.
Para contribuir con el desempeño deportivo, cuenta con suspensión pseudo-Mc Pherson, la cual tiene como principal función evitar la vibración del volante ante una brusca aceleración o frenaje. Además cuenta con diferencial de desplazamiento limitado, que permite acelerar en curvas sin perder la adherencia y el chasis es de tipo Cup, con barras estabilizadoras más grandes, mayor rigidez antirrolido y suspensión delantera más rígida. Tiene tren delantero con pivote independiente y amortiguación progresiva.
Otro elemento específico del modelo es el botón R.S. Drive que permite personalizar el nivel de conducción, tacómetro con testigo de cambio de velocidad y señal sonora.
Diseño y seguridad
En cuanto a la estética, el modelo se destaca por su frontal, donde sobresale el característico rombo de la marca con la sigla R.S., acompañada por las ópticas focales con un filo blanco en sus extremidades, mientras que en el paragolpes delantero tiene una gran rejilla de entrada de aire y una lámina aerodinámica de tipo F1.
Otro elemento que lo hace llamativo son los guardabarros bien marcados con las llantas de 18’, lo cual sumado a la salida central del sistema de escape, el difusor y el alerón trasero, acentúan el carácter deportivo.
En seguridad, el Megane R.S. está equipado con airbags frontales, laterales y de cortina, frenos ABS con AFU, barras de protecciones laterales, cinturones delanteros con doble pretensor, los traseros con un pretensor y limitador de esfuerzo, control de estabilidad ESP y control de tracción TRC (acciona los frenos electrónicamente cuando las ruedas patinan limitando la potencia) y sistema de anclajes ISOFIX.
Por dentro, cuenta con volante de cuero y pedalera de alumunio, además del sistema R-Link con la telemetría del R.S. Monitor. Esta aplicación transforma el habitáculo en el cockpit de un automóvil de carreras. Tiene pantalla táctil de 7 pulgadas, Full iPod Control y el Navegador Tom Tom.
También se destacan elementos tales como: tarjeta llave “Smart Card”, sistema “global closing” (cierre de ventanas y puertas) y activación de luces “follow me home” (encendido remoto de luces bajas por un lapso de 60 segundos). El climatizador es automático bi-zona, cuenta techo solar panorámico, limitador y regulador de velocidad, cámara de estacionamiento trasera y sensores traseros, sensor crepuscular y de lluvia, entre otros.
